Following the loss of a long-held Sentate seat in Massachusetts, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi now says that Democrats lack the crucial votes to push President Obama’s signature health care legislation through without significant changes.
“In its present form without any changes I don’t think it’s possible to pass the Senate bill in the House,” Pelosi told reporters today, adding, “I don’t see the votes for it at this time.”
Pelosi and other legislatures hinted that cutting back the scope of the current bills would be the only way to win the support needed to utlimately pass reform legislation.
New York Represenative Michael Arcuri put it this way; “The mega bills are dead,” he said If we didn’t see what happened Tuesday night, we have blinkers on.”
